Golden Gate Highlands National Park
Golden Gate Highlands is a Free State landscape park where warm-coloured sandstone cliffs, high grassland and rock shelters take priority over big-game viewing.
Why go
Brandwag rock and the eroded sandstone formations give the park its visual identity. San rock paintings and fossil finds add layers beyond the scenery. Its highland setting near Clarens and the Lesotho border makes it a different proposition from South Africa’s lowland wildlife parks.
