Geography of Spain
Spain's central plateau, mountain ranges and two island groups create sharply different travel settings. The Atlantic north is greener, while much of the interior and southeast is drier.
Why go
Use geography to decide which regions belong in the same journey. The Pyrenees and Cantabrian Range frame northern routes; the Meseta Central defines the inland journey; and the Guadalquivir plain leads toward Andalusia. The Balearics and Canaries sit in different seas and should be planned as distinct island trips.
What to look for
Mount Teide on Tenerife is Spain's highest peak.
The Guadalquivir crosses a broad plain in Andalusia.
The Atlantic north has a different climate from the drier southeast.
