Why go
North Head gives the clearest sense of Sydney Harbour meeting the Pacific. Tracks cross low heath and former defence areas before reaching cliffs with wide views toward South Head and the city. The headland's Aboriginal history and quarantine or military uses require more attention than a lookout stop, so choose one interpreted loop and walk it slowly.
What to look for
- Clifftop viewpoints frame the harbour entrance between North and South Head.
- Defence structures sit within coastal heath supporting seasonal wildflowers and wildlife.
Useful to know
- Stay behind barriers and check track closures or fire conditions.
- Carry water and allow for exposed sun and wind on the headland.
