Nakhon Ratchasima
Nakhon Ratchasima, often called Khorat, marks the approach to Thailand’s northeastern plateau. The city is a useful Isan base; major provincial heritage sites require their own trips beyond the urban centre.
Why go
The city’s gateway role makes it a sensible place to pause before going deeper into the northeast. Its Khorat name and local folk tradition give more character than a simple transport stop. Phimai’s Khmer sanctuary lies elsewhere in the province, so keep city time and that archaeological excursion distinct when planning the day.
