Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Across the Chao Phraya from Ayutthaya’s old island, Wat Chaiwatthanaram forms a broad riverside ruin of Khmer-influenced towers and galleries. Its separate bank makes the approach part of the visit.
Why go
Wat Chaiwatthanaram rewards travelers who cross beyond the compact core of Ayutthaya’s temple circuit. The setting beside the river frames its central towers differently from the island ruins, and the large plan makes the monastery’s former scale easy to grasp. Arrive with enough daylight to walk the grounds and compare the towers from several sides.
