Wat Pho
Wat Pho places its great Reclining Buddha inside a richly decorated hall near the Grand Palace. Mother-of-pearl details, murals and Chinese sculptures make the wider temple worth exploring too.
Why go
Many visitors come for the Buddha’s scale, but the visual work continues after leaving its hall. Look for the inlaid details, wall paintings and sculptural groups around the compound, then compare the four major pagodas with those of nearby royal temples. Wat Pho is a good old town visit when you want several different forms of art in one precinct.
