Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai’s Wat Phra Kaew is a historic temple connected to the Emerald Buddha before the image reached Bangkok. Its art and quieter setting reward a deliberate old town stop.
The temple puts a famous national religious story in its northern context. TAT notes that it once housed the Emerald Buddha and recommends its traditional Buddhist art, giving visitors a reason to look beyond Chiang Rai’s more recent showpiece temples. Take a slower circuit of the compound and compare its character with the bright contemporary Blue Temple.
