Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep sits above Chiang Mai on its namesake hill. A golden relic chedi, long stairway and terrace outlook make the ascent as memorable as the temple itself.
Why go
The hilltop setting changes the scale of a Chiang Mai temple visit. Climb the long approach used by pilgrims, circle the gold chedi and continue to the terrace for a view over the city below. Its distance from the old town also makes it a deliberate half day excursion rather than another quick central stop.
