Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
East of Ayutthaya’s historical island, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon pairs a high bell-shaped chedi with a reclining Buddha near the entrance. The ensemble gives this active temple a different scale from the central ruins.
Why go
Its raised pagoda and four corner towers create a strong architectural composition, while the reclining Buddha adds a separate devotional focus. The temple also lies outside the densest island cluster, making it a deliberate extra stop rather than a pass through on the main ruin circuit. Allow time to see both the entrance image and the central structure.
