Shopping in central Thessaloniki
Start around Aristotelous Square for central shops, then walk north toward the traditional markets for produce and everyday goods. The contrast makes a more useful shopping outing than browsing one street alone.
Why go
The square and its pedestrian street give you a clear starting point for the city centre. Head north from there to see a different kind of trade: market stalls selling fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and fabrics. The streets are busy and close packed, so allow room to browse rather than treating the market as a quick shortcut.
What to look for
Shops cluster around Aristotelous Square and the streets leading away from it.
Traditional markets north of the square sell food and household goods.
Useful to know
Walk north from Aristotelous Square to compare the shopping streets with the market area.
Leave time to move slowly through the narrow, crowded market streets.
