Yeni Mosque
Yeni Mosque is an east-side stop for visitors exploring beyond the older Ottoman core. Its former religious role and municipal cultural use make it a concise architecture visit.
Why go
Vitaliano Poselli designed the 1902 mosque for Thessaloniki’s Dönmeh community, giving it a history distinct from the older Ottoman monuments of the centre. The eclectic facade expresses a later architectural moment as well as a particular community’s place in the city. That combination explains the building’s value beyond its former prayer function.
