Arriving by train

Union Station is Toronto's principal rail hub, linking intercity, regional and airport services with the PATH, TTC network, waterfront and financial district.

Arriving by train

Why go

Arriving by train places you at the hinge between downtown and the waterfront. Union Station makes the city's geography immediately legible: the financial district rises to the north, the harbour lies to the south, and local transit extends the journey outward. It is an efficient, car-free beginning with landmark architecture built into the arrival.

The full story

Union Station is the central meeting point for intercity rail, regional trains and the airport connection, as well as local subway and streetcar services. Its position beside the financial district, major sports venues and the waterfront makes it a useful starting point even when your accommodation lies elsewhere. The building is large and layered, with rail concourses, transit links and surrounding passages that can take time to understand on a first arrival. Follow the signs for the service you need before leaving the paid or platform area, and allow extra time when transferring between operators. The grand hall provides a memorable architectural orientation, but the practical exits are equally important: north leads toward Front Street and downtown, while southward connections point toward the harbour and nearby venues. Consult the relevant operator for current departures, platforms and fares.
