Munzur Valley National Park
Munzur Valley National Park follows a river landscape from near Tunceli toward the high Munzur Mountains. It suits travelers prepared for a broad, mountainous area rather than a compact park visit.
The Munzur and Mercan waterways cut through valleys with springs, canyons and waterfalls. Higher up, the Mercan Valley holds glacial lakes, while the Ovacık plain offers a very different open setting. The range of elevations gives a strong sense of eastern Anatolia's mountain landscape.
What to look for
The Munzur River ties together the valley landscape.
Springs around the Ovacık plain contrast with the steep mountain sections.
Glacial lakes lie higher in the Mercan Valley.
Useful to know
Choose one valley or access point for the day; the park spans a large mountain area.
Treat higher lake routes as mountain outings requiring suitable preparation.
Snow and severe winter conditions can affect travel; check routes before setting out.
