Hippodrome of Constantinople
Read the former ceremonial heart of Constantinople through surviving monuments in today's Sultanahmet Square. The obelisks and Serpent Column give a visible trace of a much larger ancient gathering place.
Choose the Hippodrome for a short outdoor stop that adds depth to the surrounding monuments. Walk between the surviving markers and imagine the scale of the former arena around the present square. Its position in Sultanahmet Square makes it easy to see alongside the nearby mosques and museums.
