The large marble candelabra give this gallery its name. Look at how they work with the coloured columns to divide the exhibition space into six sections. The sculpture belongs to a room with its own visual rhythm, with repeated divisions along its length.
A candelabrum is a support for lights. Here, its scale and carved form also make it part of the museum’s architectural display. You can compare the repeated supports before giving attention to one object within a section.
The Gallery of the Candelabra belongs to the upper galleries. The neighbouring Gallery of the Tapestries changes both the material of the works and the kind of surface you are looking at.
