The three Versailles railway stations are different places. Versailles Château Rive Gauche is the station associated with the direct approach towards Place d’Armes. Versailles Chantiers and Versailles Rive Droite require different walks. Keep the station’s full name when choosing a train or following directions.

Palace or Trianon entrance

The main palace approach passes through the gates on Place d’Armes into the Honour Courtyard. Individual visitors use Entrance A at the Dufour Pavilion. A visit only to Trianon can begin at the Grand or Petit Trianon entrance, without first joining the palace queue. The Petit Trianon admission point is at the Maison du Suisse beside its gate. Inside its gardens, paths continue towards the Queen’s Hamlet. Keep the garden transfer within the estate. Leaving through a public gate does not by itself establish a right to return.

Walking between sites

The Grand and Petit Trianon entrances are about ten minutes apart on foot. From the palace, reaching Trianon is a longer journey through the estate. The little train serves the palace and Trianon, with its own ticket and operating hours. Use the named stop for the place you are visiting. The walk towards the Grand Canal descends from the palace terrace. Returning reverses that slope. Keep time for that return, especially near closing. The central-axis route ends at the canal rather than silently including a lap of its shoreline.

Breaks and leaving the estate

Food outlets and toilets are distributed between the palace, gardens, canal and Trianon. A nearby service in another controlled area may involve another entrance, so follow the visitor signs for the area you are in. Picnics are permitted in the park. Within the formal gardens, the covered Halle des Marmousets is the designated picnic place. Use the paths and keep off lawns where access is prohibited. At the end of a visit, follow the exit signs and then choose the return towards the station or transport stop you need.
