Jean Cotelle, a painter working for Louis XIV, made most of the garden views in this gallery. The paintings show fountains, groves and the figures placed within them. They are useful for comparing the royal garden at the end of the seventeenth century with the spaces that survived, disappeared or were rebuilt.
The gallery also connects the palace with the garden side of Trianon. In the twentieth century, it served receptions during visits by foreign heads of state. This room belongs to the northern sequence. The Grand Trianon walking visit stays in the South Wing, Peristyle and upper garden.
