Find Diana in the centre of the ceiling. The goddess of hunting was also associated with the moon, and the surrounding paintings bring hunting and navigation into the same room. Louis XIV used this former vestibule for billiards during evening gatherings. Spectators watched from two levels of seating while he played. The ceiling’s grand subjects and the history of the games belong to the same space, where courtiers could watch the king at close quarters.
