Geometric flower beds and terraces bring the garden close to the Grand Trianon’s low facade and open colonnade.

From the upper parterre, compare the rectangles of planting with the long line of the building. The gardens were designed by Michel Le Bouteux, nephew of the royal gardener André Le Nôtre. Their paths and terraces carried the ordered garden towards the Grand Canal.
Flowers had a particularly active role here. Plants were buried in pots so that gardeners could change the display. Tulips, hyacinths and other scented flowers created colour close to the rooms and the Peristyle. The lower garden contains further pools and the Water Sideboard fountain, but the upper terrace already gives a clear view of the residence’s relationship with its flower beds.
