Choose a garden window and find the mirrored arch opposite it. The pairing repeats seventeen times along the gallery. A total of 357 mirrors catch the light, the garden and the people walking through. Above, the painter Charles Le Brun’s scenes celebrate the achievements of Louis XIV’s reign.
Built between 1678 and 1684 on the site of an open terrace, the hall was an everyday passage and meeting place. On exceptional diplomatic occasions, ambassadors crossed its length towards the king while the court watched.
