Look at the enormous painting on the wall, then at the figures spread across the vault. The Republic of Venice gave Meal in the House of Simon, by the Venetian painter Veronese, to Louis XIV. The painter François Lemoyne completed the ceiling in 1736, during the reign of Louis XV. The ceiling depicts Hercules being received among the gods. It was painted on canvas and attached to the vault. Before this room existed, an earlier palace chapel occupied the space. A floor was inserted after the new Royal Chapel was built.
