Malachite has a deep green colour crossed by lighter bands. Objects made from this stone, brought from the Urals, gave the room its name. Tsar Alexander I of Russia presented them to Napoleon in 1808. Mounted with ebony and bronze, they were installed permanently in 1811.
Napoleon used the room as his sitting room. The Grand Trianon walking visit stays in the South Wing, Peristyle and garden.
