Marble Courtyard
Read the older brick-and-stone palace around its marble-paved courtyard. The clock and balcony locate Louis XIV’s bedroom in the centre of the first-floor facade.

Look for the clock and the balcony in the central facade. Behind those first-floor windows is the bedchamber Louis XIV began using in 1701. The brick and stone around it belong to the earlier residence of his father, Louis XIII, which remained at the heart of the enlarged palace.
The courtyard takes its name from its marble paving. Its smaller scale helps you recognise the old building within the long wings added around it.
