Look for tied bundles of wheat in the carved furniture and plant motifs among its ornaments. Marie-Antoinette commissioned the decorator Jean-Démosthène Dugourc to redesign the room, and the furniture maker Georges Jacob supplied furnishings with a seasonal, rural theme.
The bedroom had previously been used by Madame Du Barry, a companion of Louis XV. Its adaptation for the new queen belonged to a wider remaking of the Petit Trianon. The small scale of the room differs from her state bedroom in the main palace. It still formed part of a staffed royal residence, with nearby rooms and service arrangements supporting the household.
