Look at the carved panels and the interlaced royal monogram among their plant decoration. The Reception Room was the main gathering space on this floor. Marie-Antoinette received friends here, and a light fitting was commissioned for the room in 1784.
The instruments now displayed illustrate her interest in music. The piano-forte was made by Taskin in 1790 and came to Versailles under Louis-Philippe. The harp dates from 1780. Their presence does not mean that both were used by the queen in this room. The display brings together the historic interior and objects chosen later to help explain its use.
