A state bedroom shaped by successive queens and later restoration. Its recreated bed and rewoven fabrics evoke a room where domestic life and court ceremony met.

Look at the flowered fabric and the gilded canopy above the bed. The room combines decoration inherited from successive queens with furnishings changed by Marie-Antoinette, queen of France before the Revolution. The bed and its barrier were later reconstructed from historical documents. The fabrics were rewoven in Lyon from original patterns.
The queen received admitted members of the court while getting ready in the morning. During childbirth, only a small authorised group entered the bedchamber. Other courtiers waited in adjoining rooms, while a screen or tent shielded the queen.
