The Queen’s House is larger than most cottages around the lake. Its exterior belongs to the village scenery, while the rooms inside were fitted for receiving invited guests. A covered connection links the main house with the billiard building. Richard Mique, Marie-Antoinette’s architect, built the Hamlet in the 1780s. Later restoration under Napoleon introduced decoration for Empress Marie-Louise, so the restored interiors do not all belong to the queen who commissioned the village. From the lakeside paths, look at the relationship between stairs, balconies and rooflines. Entry to the house is part of a separately guided visit, beyond this outdoor observation.
Before you arrive

The Queen’s House interior is visited on a booked guided tour. The Hamlet walk observes the building from outside.
