The columns on the upper level frame the gallery where Louis XIV and his family attended mass. Members of the court occupied other places according to their rank. That division remains visible from the public first-floor viewing opening. Completed in 1710, this was the last of several chapels built at Versailles. The architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart began the project and the architect Robert de Cotte completed it after his death. The view into the chapel is part of the main palace circuit. Entry to the nave is a separate visit.
Before you arrive
