Compare this smaller room with the Main Dining Room next door. The two rooms sit above service spaces on the ground floor. Louis XV considered a mechanism that would raise fully laid tables into the Small Dining Room from below. He abandoned it after seeing the engineer’s price. The tables were never installed. The plan shows how much work the household could place out of sight beneath rooms intended for a small gathering.
