Find the large oval relief of Louis XIV on horseback, on the wall beside the Apollo Room. The sculptor Antoine Coysevox placed the king above defeated enemies. Marble panels and gilded trophies continue the military subject around the walls. Charles Le Brun’s ceiling celebrates the victories that led to the treaties of Nijmegen. This room introduces that account of royal success before you enter the long Hall of Mirrors.
