Water Parterre
Two shallow pools sit between the palace facade and the long garden view. Bronze figures personify French rivers beside reflections of the sky.

Choose a place beside one of the two rectangular pools and compare its low surface with the palace behind it. The Water Parterre leaves a broad, open space in front of the Hall of Mirrors. The figures around the pools include personifications of rivers, nymphs and children.
From this terrace, the garden spreads in several directions. The North and South Parterres lie to either side, while Latona’s fountain and the Royal Way carry the view towards the Grand Canal. Moving towards the edge changes how these elements overlap. The terrace is the starting point for the central-axis walk, before the descent to Latona.
