Botahtaung Pagoda
Near the Yangon River, Botahtaung Pagoda offers an unusual walk through a hollow gilded stupa. Its mirrored interior and riverside setting make it distinct from the city's larger hilltop pagodas.
Here the main stupa is part of the visit rather than only something to circle from outside. A passage through its hollow interior reveals mosaic glass and spaces associated with a revered Buddha hair relic. The site was rebuilt after wartime destruction, so it adds a twentieth-century chapter to Yangon's older pagoda traditions. Finish by looking toward the nearby river.
