Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple
This Bahan Township temple centers on a long reclining Buddha image. It suits visitors who want to spend time with one striking work of Buddhist art rather than a large pagoda complex.
The reclining image measures about 66 metres and fills the hall with its scale. The present figure replaced an earlier image during the twentieth century, which makes its crafted face and glass eyes worth looking at closely as well as from the far end. The temple offers a different visual focus from Shwedagon's gilded stupa nearby in the broader city.
