Why go
The pagoda's island position makes it distinct from Yangon's street-side temples: water surrounds the shrine, and the approach reveals it before you arrive. Once there, look at the Buddhist artwork and the relationship between the small island and the creek. This is a separate trip to Kyauktan, so it suits a day with time to confirm the crossing and linger rather than a quick downtown stop.
What to look for
- The pagoda occupies a small island in Hmaw Wun Creek.
- The crossing gives a changing view of the shrine against the water.
- Paintings and sculpture add detail to the religious setting.
Useful to know
- Confirm current crossing arrangements and access before setting out for Kyauktan.
- Allow for the crossing as well as time at the shrine; this is away from central Yangon.
