Kyauktawgyi Buddha Temple, Yangon
On Mindhamma Hill in northern Yangon, this temple houses a large Buddha carved from one block of white marble. It is a focused visit for the image and its unusual journey to the hill.
The marble figure, known as Lokachantha Abhaya Labhamuni, shows the gesture of fearlessness. Its stone came from the Mandalay region and was moved by rail and river before being placed on Mindhamma Hill. That demanding journey helps explain the image's significance here. This is the Yangon temple; Mandalay has a different Kyauktawgyi Pagoda.
