Fire, Smoke, and Changing Forests

Why go

Fire shapes Yosemite's forests, but active smoke, closures, and prescribed burns can also change visibility, air quality, and access with little notice. Use Fire, Smoke, and Changing Forests to frame the subject, then let Fire, Smoke, and Changing Forests separate broad patterns from visitor choices. Return to Fire, Smoke, and Changing Forests when deciding what belongs in one realistic Yosemite day.

Useful to know

• Check current NPS conditions for the district you will actually visit.
• Keep one major activity per half day when driving or elevation change is substantial.
