Why go
The city offers a different Swiss character: French-speaking streets, diplomatic landmarks and Lake Genevaʼs wide horizon. St. Pierre Cathedral, the Old Town and waterfront can form a coherent visit, yet the long rail journey limits depth. It makes more sense for a specific interest than as a casual alternative to nearby cities.
What to look for
- Climb through the Old Town toward St. Pierre Cathedral.
- Walk the lakefront for views across the water and the Jet dʼEau.
- Notice the international quarterʼs institutional scale if it matches your interests.
Useful to know
- Start very early and select either the Old Town and lake or the international quarter.
- Consider an overnight stay if you want museums as well as the main outdoor sights.
