Why go
The city works because its three layers are distinct: painted and oriel-windowed façades in the center, a steep climb to Munot, and the much larger natural drama of the Rhine Falls nearby. Trying to compress all three into a short stop weakens the experience, so plan the day around walking and transfer time.
What to look for
- Look for painted façades and projecting oriel windows in the Old Town.
- Climb to Munot for the fortress form and views over roofs and vineyards.
- Add the Rhine Falls for the strongest natural contrast.
Useful to know
- Allow a full day if you include the Rhine Falls as well as the Old Town.
- Wear comfortable shoes for the Munot climb and riverside paths.
