Stop At: Yurakucho Yokocho, Unnamed Road 2 Chome-4, ２丁目-４ 有楽町 千代田区 東京都 100-0006, Japan
We’ll begin our tour in Yakitori Alley, near Yurakucho, an area with many casual bar-style restaurants and the birthplace of yakitori, one of many Japanese people’s favourite appetizers. As many businessmen and women do after 5pm, we’ll enjoy a drink of sake or a local beer, then sample yakitori at one of the many local restaurants, each with their own “tare” (sauce) mixed with their secret ingredients.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Stop At: Tsukishima Monja Street, 1 Chome-9 Tsukishima, Chuo City, Tokyo 104-0052, Japan
After having a drink to go with the yakitori, we’ll travel to Tsukishima to visit “Monja” Street, where “Monja-Yaki” is said to have originated. Often compared with Okonomi-yaki in Osaka, Monja-yaki is a type of Japanese pan-fried batter with various ingredients. The ingredients are finely chopped and mixed into the batter before grilling. You’ll have the chance to watch your food being cooked, chat with the cook, and devour your Monja-yaki fresh from the hot plate. In true local style, you’ll use a small metal spatula for cutting it to pieces then chopsticks to eat with right from the grill.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Stop At: Ginza, Chuo 104-0061 Tokyo Prefecture
We’ll take a quick stroll through Ginza, where you can find great confectionery shops and learn about the rich variety of traditional Japanese sweets — and, best of all, choose one to try! Usually made of rice and red beans, these sweets change based on the ingredients available at each time of year, and even their shapes are inspired by what you can find in nature during that season.
Your tour ends here but don’t forget to ask for tips on what else to see do and eat during your stay. Fancy a cool local bar or a karaoke place? We’d be happy to recommend our favourites so that your night can continue. Equally, your guide can help with directions back to your accommodation or you can return to the start point with them.

The food tour was a fabulous experience. I loved being lead to local, out of the way restaurants. We toasted with and talked to the locals which was such an uplifting experience. Our female guide was so helpful even regarding how to get back to the hotel. The food was delicious
Fun tour! Great guide that spoke wonderful English. Experienced local cuisine and customs. Saw Tokyo by night which was exciting! Highly recommend this tour!
We enjoyed the tour. Walking, food and 2 drinks included!! Guide knew her stuff and kept 12 people very happy.
Snoopy was a great guide. The group sampled food we've never eaten but enjoyed. We visited restaurants that were off the beaten path where the locals eat. I would tour with him again.
This trip was wonderful. Our guide spoke good English and had a lovely personality. There were eight on our tour. Our guide took us to several different places to eat and we had some interesting local dishes that we would never have had the opportunity to experience if not for this tour. We had plenty to eat and we thoroughly recommend this tour.
some wonderful food experiences with a great guide that helped us understand not just the food, but also the history of the places that we visited and also the traditions surrounding the Japanese culture
Highly recommend this food tour. Aya was a great guide and really made it an excellent experience. Great food and a few ideas of places to visit in the future. Good job!
Kiri was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and the food was great. Especially nice since I was travelling on my own and it was nice to chat with everyone.
Kirihara was amazing. He was very engaging, had a great sense of humor, and made the entire experience fun. Despite my poor sense of directions, I was able to find the group at the designated meeting point in the Ginza district . It was a party of 12, and I enjoyed my conversations with everyone I spoke to. From the meeting point, Kirihara took us to a restaurant where we were provided drinks and snacks. I was the only vegetarian, which I did specify when I booked the trip, and that entire evening, Kirihara ensured that I got vegetarian options. After that, he took us to a bakery, and we each received a mochi dessert. (I ate it a few days later, and it was still delicious.) We then went to another restaurant, where we had two different entrees. One drink was included with the meal, but everyone had the option of ordering more drinks at his or her own cost. The establishment was the kind where there was a hot griddle at each table, and Kirihara actually prepared the Japanese pancakes and "pizzas" for us. He has mad skills. At the end of the tour, he ensured that we knew our way back to our hotels via subway, and then emailed us an extensive list of descriptions and links of his recommendations on what to see and eat in Tokyo. I give Kirihara and the night tour an A+++.
I cannot call a tour a food tour because we spent most of the time walking leisurely at the streets and getting to places. Food was 6 very salty chicken little sticks divided between 2 people, so you are lucky to try one tiny peace, and cabbage pancakes that they cook in front of you. I am not a big fan of cabbage and was expecting much of different type of dishes rather than sitting in a small smoky cheap joint for 2 hr.
Overalll, it was a ripoff. With abundance of restaurants on every corner, you can easily try different dishes yourself and for the price of tour-at least 5 whole meals. Waste of money, waste of time.
Savor some amazing Japanese dishes while experiencing local nightlife on this food tour in Tokyo. Delve into the city’s nighttime culinary scene on visits to several popular pubs and restaurants for local favorites such as grilled meat skewers, hot-plate dishes, sweet cakes and sake. All tastings and necessary public transport are included, and you’ll learn a ton about Japanese food and culture from your expert local guide. This small-group tour is limited to 12 people, ensuring a more personalized experience.
