Why go
This compact Positano walk suits visitors who want a little history before spending time by the sea. The painted Roman rooms of the Roman Archaeological Museum of Positano lie beneath the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, so the first two visits belong naturally together. Descend to Spiaggia Grande for a view back toward the stacked town and tiled dome. The museum visit is short, leaving time to slow down on the shore. Fornillo Beach is an optional second stop reached on foot from the main waterfront; leave it out if you would rather linger at Spiaggia Grande. Expect steps between the upper lanes and the water.
