Museumplein and Van Gogh

This museum district route brings the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum together around Museumplein, with the Concertgebouw just across the street.

Museumplein and Van Gogh

Why go

Museumplein is one of Amsterdam’s clearest cultural clusters: the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum offer different lenses on art, while the Concertgebouw adds a music landmark across Van Baerlestraat. The close geography lets you choose depth or range instead of spending the day crossing town. Make one museum essential and keep the others optional; two major collections can easily consume the whole day before an evening concert begins.

Useful to know

  • Make one museum the priority and keep the other large collections optional to avoid a rushed day indoors.
  • Check each museum’s current entry arrangements and the Concertgebouw programme before setting the route.
