Why go
This district gives you several different days to build from one coastal base: Side for its ancient theatre and port, the Manavgat River and waterfalls for a shorter waterside outing, or Köprülü Canyon for a forested rafting landscape. The inland sights deserve their own planning rather than a hurried circuit.
What to look for
- Side pairs an ancient theatre with a port on the coast.
- The Manavgat River links the waterfalls with the coast.
- Köprülü Canyon lies in forested inland country known for rafting.
The full story
Manavgat is a district of contrasts rather than a single sightseeing stop. Along the Mediterranean coast, sandy shorelines and seaside settlements lead toward Side, where an ancient theatre and port give a different reason to linger beyond the beach. The Manavgat River draws the eye inland to its waterfalls, then meets the sea at the river mouth. Farther from the coast, the landscape changes to mountains, forest and river gorges. Köprülü Canyon is associated with rafting in a forested national park. Oymapınar Dam is another inland landmark, while the area also has caves and ancient sites such as Seleucia and Selge. These places make Manavgat useful as a base for choosing between coast, water and antiquity. They are distinct outings across a broad district, so decide which landscape interests you most before setting off.
Useful to know
- Group Side’s theatre and port as one coastal outing.
- Treat Köprülü Canyon or Oymapınar Dam as a separate inland trip from the coast.
