Why go
Take this route on a clear day if you enjoy reading a town from its streets and high points. San Rufino gives the walk a Romanesque starting point, and the amphitheater survives in the curved street plan rather than an open arena. Climb to Rocca Maggiore for the medieval fortress, museum rooms and broad views across Assisi. Rocca Minore is an optional further look at the town’s defenses; end near Parco Regina Margherita if you still want time outdoors. The route involves an uphill climb and exposed viewpoints, so give the fortress time and shorten the optional end if the weather changes or your energy fades.
