Why go
Begin at Arataki Visitor Centre for current track advice and a first view across Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa. Continue to Piha Beach for the clearest combination of surf, settlement and Lion Rock, then choose Karekare Beach only if road and track conditions allow another exposed coast stop. Muriwai Gannet Colony lies well north and should remain optional, justified mainly when its viewing platforms are open during the nesting season. This is a driving route with weather-sensitive stops: never compress it by ignoring closures, surf warnings or the time needed to return before dark.
