Te Whatu Stardome
A planetarium and observatory at Maungakiekie, offering engaging daytime space exhibits and presenter-led evening shows beneath a fully immersive digital dome.
Stardome adds an indoor scientific stop to the One Tree Hill landscape. The planetarium turns current skies and astronomical ideas into guided visual programmes, while exhibits explain Southern Hemisphere observing and the observatory’s history. Evening sessions work best when the show itself, rather than guaranteed telescope viewing, is the main reason to go.
What to look for
The 360-degree dome supports live-presented night-sky sessions and astronomy films.
Its position below Maungakiekie links celestial orientation with one of Auckland’s major volcanic landmarks.
Useful to know
Book a specific show; general opening does not mean every planetarium programme is available.
Pair a daytime session with Maungakiekie, or arrive after the park walk for an evening programme.
