The Bahamas
The Bahamas stretches from Grand Bahama and Abaco in the north to Inagua in the south. Pick an island by the landscape and pace you want; the country is much more than Nassau.
Nassau on New Providence gives you the capital and its harbour history. Grand Bahama has Freeport and Lucaya; Andros brings pineyards and mangrove landscapes. The long spread of islands makes geography part of the trip decision, so plan each island as a distinct base rather than a quick extension of Nassau.
What to look for
Nassau sits on New Providence, with Paradise Island beside it.
Grand Bahama and Abaco lie to the north; Inagua is far to the south.
Low limestone land gives way to mangroves, scrub and northern pineyards.
Useful to know
Choose your island base before planning day trips; the archipelago spans a long north–south distance.
Use the Nassau transport guide for airport, ferry and road choices around New Providence.
