The full story

Queen’s Staircase climbs through a shaded limestone cut between downtown Nassau and the ridge near Fort Fincastle. Its 66 steps make a compact history walk.

The carved passage gives the climb an atmosphere quite different from the busy streets below. It also makes the ridge’s former defensive importance easier to picture. Link the staircase with the fort if you are comfortable with steps above downtown Nassau.

  • A steep flight carved through limestone links downtown Nassau with the high ground near Fort Fincastle.

Use the staircase and Fort Fincastle as one walk; expect steps and damp stone underfoot.
