Plaça d’Espanya
Plaça d’Espanya is a major junction and the gateway to Montjuïc’s 1929 exposition axis. Pause for its central fountain and the twin towers framing the route toward Palau Nacional.
Why go
The square helps orient a Montjuïc visit. Josep Maria Jujol’s sculptural fountain anchors the traffic circle, while the Venetian towers mark the start of Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina. From there the uphill view leads toward the Magic Fountain and Palau Nacional.
What to look for
Jujol’s ornamental fountain stands in the middle of the square.
The Venetian towers frame the avenue toward Palau Nacional.
Useful to know
Use the square as the start of the Montjuïc approach, then follow the avenue toward the palace.
Expect a busy road junction; focus your stop on the fountain and the framed uphill view.
