Casa Vicens

Gaudí’s first house stands in Gràcia, away from the Passeig de Gràcia cluster. Its patterned brick and ceramic exterior makes the trip worthwhile; an interior visit reaches the garden and richly decorated rooms.

Casa Vicens

Why go

The house shows Gaudí working with bright tile, brick and iron before the more fluid forms of Casa Batlló. The smoking room and main floor make the interior particularly useful for tracing his early experiments. Its Gràcia setting means it works best as a deliberate detour, rather than a quick addition to the Block of Discord.

What to look for

  • Geometric ceramic and brick patterns on the exterior.
  • The garden and decorated main floor.
  • The richly ornamented smoking room.

Useful to know

  • Set aside a separate Gràcia visit rather than folding it into a short Passeig de Gràcia walk.
  • Check the official visit timetable before fixing your route; current hours vary by date.
