Why go
This route suits walkers who want the river to shape their day. Begin with the open space of St. Johanns-Park, then pause at St. Johann gate before heading toward Mittlere Brücke. After crossing the Rhine, Museum Kleines Klingental gives the walk a historical indoor stop. Continue along the Kleinbasel side to Museum Tinguely for a longer visit devoted to moving art. The final riverside stretch is the longest walk, so save energy for it and allow more time than the map’s straight line suggests. The gate is a brief optional detour; the park, bridge and two museums give the route its main arc. Check museum opening information before leaving.

By the Rhine in Solitudepark, this museum centres on Jean Tinguely's moving sculptures. It is the clearest Basel stop for art that behaves like machinery, set inside Mario Botta's building.
